For the past nine years, Kymco has been successfully marketing its range of scooters under the BUG banner to become the fourth largest scooter manufacturer in Australia. BUG scooters will be re-branded to Kymco in 2009.

Further to this, the company has just launched a tough and reliable range of All Terrain Vehicles(ATV’s) tailored for Australian conditions, and will introduce a range of entry-level motorcycles to the market in Q4 of this year.

While still in its relatively early stages in Australia, Kymco is an absolute global phenomenon. The company manufactured over 570,000 vehicles last year, which means that every 55seconds someone, somewhere in the world is purchasing a Kymco scooter, ATV or motorcycle.

“Kymco is one of the few “self-sufficient” companies across the globe, manufacturing almost allof its own components, from wheels to carburetors and engines to brake pads,” says Stuart McLean, Chief Executive Officer of Kymco Australia & New Zealand. “Where other manufacturers have buyers running around Asia sourcing parts and components, most of what you see on a Kymco is manufactured by Kymco itself.”

And at Kymco, they know nothing but quality in everything they do. The company has been awarded ISO 9001 – the world manufacturing quality assurance rating. The company has forged a strong relationship with the global scooter and motorcycle industry, manufacturing engines for BMW Motorcycles, components for Arctic Cat, along with a number of other manufacturers.“The fact that a company with the prestige of BMW are willing to put their reputation in the hands of Kymco speaks volumes for our product”, McLean said.

“And to back up our product, we have assembled a nationwide dealer network and a team of local, experienced industry professionals to take our product to market and ensure we provide an optimum level of service to our customers.”

The company manufactured its first scooter in 1970 and began marketing under the Kymco banner in 1992.The BMW G450X enduro engine (manufactured by Kymco) has won huge acclaim and adds yet another feather to the Kymco cap.

Kymco’s headquarters are located in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, and the company manufactures through five production factories across Asia. Over 17% of the substantial Kymco workforce is dedicated to research and development alone, including developing tailored products for global markets such as Australia and New Zealand. This product development is evident in Kymco’s new range of ATVs, which have been recently launched in Australia.

Acknowledging the fact that the Australian and New Zealand markets are agriculturally-focused, Kymco has produced a range of hard-working and reliable ATV’s designed specifically for farm use.Take the Kymco UXV 500 side x side utility vehicle, which comes complete with 4 Wheel Drive, class leading independent suspension on the front and rear, a 500cc engine, a whopping 31cm ground clearance and a towing capacity of 550kg to boot.

Or the Kymco MXU 300, 400 and 500 ATVs, which are taking the market by storm with their performance and utility. All come complete with selectable 2WD/4WD that can be changed on the fly, automatic CVT transmission, the power of a Kymco 300/400/500 engine and huge towing and carrying capabilities. The MXU 500 can tow 454kg and carry 85kg on the rear rack and 45kg on the rear, while the MXU 400 can tow 447kg and is rated to carry a combined 102kgon the front and rear racks. Add to this front and rear disc brakes and high/low range drive systems (400 & 500 only) and you have a package sure to please all farmers.

All Kymco UXV and MXU models are supported by a 2-Year Factory Warranty. And at Kymco, it’s not all work and no play.

There’s also the Maxxer 300 for trail riders, featuring a 270cc engine, automatic transmission and 25cm ground clearance for tackling either the trail or the track. And for the kids, there’s the Maxxer 50 & 90. Both models come complete with automatic CVT transmission, lanyard safety switch, electric ignition with kick-start back-up and a 49cc/89cc engine. Q4 of this year will also see the launch of a new range of motorcycles from Kymco. The Quannon 125 is a sporty, entry-level machine, the CK 125 is the commuter’s choice, while the Venox 250 is a V-Twin cruiser with everything a serious rider wants in a motorcycle – minus the inflated price tag.

And of course, Kymco is back in 2009 with its customary range of scooters. From the Xciting RI500cc to the Vibe, Sento, Super 8 and Pronto 50cc models, there’s a size and style to suit everyone’s riding requirements, from zipping around town to enough power to burn on the freeway. Kymco currently offers 10 scooter models, including 50cc, 125cc, 200cc, 250cc and 500cc variants.
